You will be given an Immigration Form on your flight. Each (non-Caymanian) person arriving in Cayman must complete this form. The form will ask where you are staying. Laguna Del Mar resort is at 441 West Bay Road.
A Customs Form will also be made available to you on your flight however you only need to complete this if you are over your duty-free allowance. For a visitor, the duty-free allowance per person is 1L of spirits or 4L of wine. Any other goods you bring to Cayman which you will leave behind (gifts for family or friends) must be declared on the Customs Form and may be subject to duty.
You will first have to clear Cayman Immigration. Saturday is the busiest day of the week at the airport and this line has been known to take up to an hour. You will then collect your luggage and clear Cayman Customs which is very quick unless you are over your duty-free allowance.
The free Wi-Fi in the arrivals hall at the airport is not reliable. Be sure you have downloaded all the information you need for accommodation and rental cars prior to leaving home.
Laguna Del Mar resort is at 441 West Bay Road on Seven Mile Beach and is approximately a 10-minute drive from the Airport.
TAXI:
The easiest way to get to Laguna Del Mar is by taxi. There are no shuttles. Upon exiting the airport, you will see a Taxi Dispatcher stand and they will assign you to the next available taxi. Taxis are typically vans that can hold 8-10 people. The fare to Laguna Del Mar is approximately $25 USD for up to 3 people. Each additional person is another 1/3 of the fare (e.g. 6 people will be $40 USD). Most taxis do not take credit cards so you will need cash and USD is accepted everywhere. Car seats are not required (for children over two) by law in Cayman so taxis will not have car seats available. For those under two years of age must be seated in a car seat attached by a seatbelt (which you will need to provide).
RENTAL CAR:
If you have rented a car, you will see signs for the various rental car companies once you have exited the airport. They are all within a 5-minute walk. See the section below on Driving and Maps for our advice on navigating if you have a rental car.

One of the most commonly asked questions is “do we need to rent a car?”. Approximately half our guests rent a car. There are 50 restaurants within a one-mile radius, liquor store (booze not sold in grocery) 5 mins walk, and the closest supermarket is 2/3 of a mile away so many find they do not need one. You may also arrange grocery delivery. Please also note there is no Uber. It is a personal decision depending on your own needs. Keep in mind that we drive on the left in Cayman and that roundabouts are used extensively. It can be daunting, especially for a first-time visitor. Repeat after me, “Stay on the left, look right”.
Please visit www.caymanroads.com and then select Traffic Safety for advisories from the Government on how to use roundabouts and the West Bay Road center turning lane. For a first visit, you might consider a taxi to the condo from the airport and then renting a car for a day or two once you have your bearings.
Andy’s Rent-a-Car is the closest car rental agency. It is next to Coconut Joe’s on West Bay Road. Turn right on leaving Laguna Del Mar and walk about 8 minutes.
There is also an Avis at the Marriott and a Hertz across from Grand Cayman Beach Suites on West Bay Road.
Prior to leaving home and while you are in a Wi-Fi zone, we recommend that you download the Google Maps app. You can then download the map for the Cayman Islands through the app right onto your device. Once you have downloaded the map, it will work for you even if you have your Mobile Data and Wi-Fi turned off on your device. The only thing you won’t have is live traffic updates. We also recommend downloading the Explore Cayman app which also has an offline map.
